520. THE HINDU

*

Sir,
Your search for ‘A building in search of an idea’ in your daily on 7.8.2011 is a bad idea!

When our politicians go against some normal and common etiquette, public and media should try to make them see things in the proper perspective. Already we are all pained that our politicians of the two major parties – D.M.K., & A.I.A.D.M.K – never even extend or exchange some basic courtesies to each other. While politicians of opposite camps in other States have the modicum of decency of wishing each other on birth days, or even making courtesy visits to each other, in Tamil Nadu just the opposite is prevalent for some decades. They don’t even attend important funerals of their erstwhile friends, if they are now in the opposite camps.

In this situation The Hindu is taking an unusual exercise of getting public opinion as to what to do with the newly built or half-built legislative assembly. The present government can and should take steps to find out whether there is improper expenditure or any corruption involved in the construction and should bring the erring people into the books. But it is an immense waste if the building which was planned for the legislative assembly should be thrown open for other purposes. 480 crores of rupees spent on that building should not be thrown into the dust bin.

Public and media should stress that the new government should behave with maturity. The complex is not a toy to be thrown away into the cellars by an adamant and an inexorable baby who does not get an instant liking for the toy! It is not a game played by two opponents with simple placards. It is real money, our money!

Assuming the next government is by D.M.K. will The Hindu go again for remaking the building into a legislative assembly?

Media should make the politicians see good reasoning. They should never go along with the whimsies and fancies of the erring politicians. Media should be in the forefront to stop this folly and stupid game of the present ministry.

//Media should be in the forefront to stop this folly and stupid game of the present ministry.//

un-fortunately the media was not even allowed to be in the forefront to question why the THEN MINISTRY ignored the place chosen for construction of secretariat.

the THEN MINISTRY under the auspices of Karunanidhi had the knack of sidelining any issue brought to the forefront by the media by using the age old folly of "Cross belt" and people like us did not even write about questioning his knack or the media succumbing to the pressure until karunanidhi got caught in the spectrum tangle.

if the wording in your letter had been //Media should be in the forefront to stop this folly and stupid game of the ministry// it would have been a matured statement to question all. However unfortunately your intention to portray neutrality has taken a hit.

Better luck next time.

i do understand and have the capacity to understand much more than you think you can, your intentions when you said "Present ministry" and not use the word "ministry" so don't try to portray a different story.

Sir,

As a faithful reader of your hallowed paper and imbibed it in my every cell, nerve and consciousness of my body, I think I am entitled to give my suggestions to your news item ‘A building in search of an idea’ in your daily on 7.8.2011.

I understand your advertisement in the guise of news. I enjoyed “my” newspaper’s youthful exuberance in reporting the growth of the new secretariat building. The exuberance reached a crescendo when, Tamil Nadu’s great, great, great, grandfather announced the non-existent completion of the secretariat building. As usual, to give a cinematic entertainment to the expectant citizens of tamil nadu, a never conjured up idea of erecting a cinema set dome was executed and constructed and people were happy that their cup was filled. I also sailed along with your pride that kasturi building will be situated opposite to something important.

But fate has decided something else and “mummy” returned. Chivalry, ego took precedence and looks like tamil nadu’s fans money will go down the drain.

But as readers, we are in sync with your sentiment. Seeing once buzzing opposite building turn into a Ghost titanic Ship, is too much for one,s positive emotions. This clearly shows the fallacy of engaging a German to design rather than engineer.

Sadly, my grey cells do not move a notch, since you have not given any monetary reciprocity for my brain to wander freely. Therefore left with no other option I have to follow the time tested way of “copy and paste”

http://savukku.net/home1/729-2011-04-18-14-53-38.html

if there is any grammatical mistake or doesn’t make your letter’s to editor desk reach for dictionary, in reading the above letter, blame it on your present op-ed standards.

Thanking you
Ever faithful reader.
