வழக்கமாக ஆசிரியர் தினத்தன்று பழைய மாணவர்களிடமிருந்து ‘நல்ல வார்த்தைகள்’ நாலு வருவது வழக்கம் தான். ஆனால் இந்த ஆண்டு இன்னுமதிக நல்ல வார்த்தைகள் காதில் விழுந்தன. அதோடு ‘என் கதை’ வேறு வந்ததா? இரண்டும் இணைந்து அல்லது இரண்டுக்கும் இணைத்து பல ‘நல்ல வார்த்தைகள்’ காதை எட்டின.

என் வாழ்க்கையில் பல ஆசிரியர்களைச் சந்தித்திருக்கிறேன். ஆனால், பாடங்களை மட்டும் கற்றுக் கொடுத்த ஆசிரியர் என்ற வரையறைக்குள் உங்களை என்னால் வைத்துப் பார்க்க முடியாது.

 

உங்கள் வகுப்புகள் எனக்குப் பாடங்களாக இருந்ததைக் காட்டிலும், *வாழ்க்கையைப் பற்றிச் சிந்திக்கக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்த அனுபவங்களாகவே* இருந்திருக்கின்றன.

 

கேள்வி கேட்பது, எதையும் அப்படியே ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாமல் சிந்திப்பது, நம்முடைய நம்பிக்கைகளையே கூட பரிசோதித்துப் பார்ப்பது—இவற்றை உங்கள் சிந்தனைகளும், உங்கள் வாழ்க்கை அனுபவங்களும் எனக்குக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்திருக்கின்றன.

 

குறிப்பாக, என்னை பல நல்ல புத்தகங்களின் உலகத்திற்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தியதில் உங்களுக்குள்ள பங்கு மிகப் பெரியது. அந்தப் புத்தகங்கள் என் வாசிப்பை மட்டுமல்ல் என் சிந்தனையையும் விரிவு படுத்தின. அதற்காக நான் உங்களுக்கு எப்போதும் நன்றியுள்ளவளாக இருப்பேன்.

உங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை நீங்கள் எவ்வளவு நேர்மையாகவும் துணிச்சலாகவும் அணுகிகிறீர்கள் என்பதற்கான இன்னொரு சான்றாக நான்  உங்களின் “என் கதை” புத்தகத்தைப் பார்க்கிறேன்.

ஒரு காலத்தில் நம்பிக்கையிலிருந்து கேள்விகளுக்குள் பயணித்து, தனது அனுபவங்களின் வழியாக ஒரு தனித்தனி சிந்தனை உலகை உருவாக்கிக் கொண்ட உங்கள் பயணம் என்னைப் போன்ற பலரையும் சிந்த்திக்கத் தூண்டுகிறது.

என் ஆசிரியராக இருந்ததற்காக மட்டுமல்ல; என்னை இன்னும் சிந்திக்கச் செய்து கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசிரியராக இருப்பற்காகவும் உங்களுக்கு என் மனமார்ந்த நன்றி.

இன்றும் உங்களுடன் தொடர்பில் இருப்பது எனக்கு ஒரு மகிழ்ச்சியும் பெருமையும்.

என்னைப் போன்ற ஒரு மாணவியின் வாழ்க்கையில்
ஒரு ஆசிரியர் ஏற்படுத்தக் கூடிய தாக்கம் எவ்வளவு ஆழ்மானது என்பதற்கு நீங்கள் ஒரு சிறந்த உதாரணம்.

இந்த ஆசிரியர் தினத்தில், உங்களுக்கு என் மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துகளும், நன்றியும், அன்பும்.

I have learnt from you in ways you may never know. Not only from the obvious guidance from you, but from watching how you thought, spoke, worked and carried yourself. Somewhere along the way, I began noticing those little things, consciously and unconsciously, and letting them shape the person I was becoming.

 

Perhaps I am still a work in progress, a collage of the people who have inspired me, with a little piece of each woven into who I am. I know there is a little of you in there too.

But somehow you restricted yourself not to do much deeper research, if you took research as your career, you could have received a Nobel Prize by this time. You are still active because of your unique brain. American College spoiled a Good scientist. You may not agree,sir

Hi Sir! Hope you are doing well. Robert sent me the old seminar evaluation papers that you had sent him. I can never forget that seminar Alvin Toffler was very hard to comprehend in the beginning but as I got on with it, I was fascinated and it opened new vistas. My social perspectives shifted overnight. Maybe my work in the human rights arena too was an extension of that.

My father had his books but I was never inclined to read them before that. Thanks for shaping our young minds.

 

In other news, Robert has bought two copies of your new book. He is going to give one to his senior Prabhu Rajadurai tomorrow as it is his birthday today. He is in Chennai today and is returning to Madurai only tomorrow.

 

Congratulations on the release of your autobiography Sir. Eager to read it.
