டென்னிஸ் இறுதிச் சுற்று.

நினைத்தது போலவே இறுதியில் மோதிக்கொண்டது ஜோக்கோவிச் X அல்காரஸ் இருவரும் தான். ஒன்றும், இரண்டும் மோதிக்கொண்டனர். அவரவர் கேமில் இருவருமே தோற்காமல், இரு ஆட்டங்களுமே டை ப்ரேக்கர் சென்று இரண்டிலும் ஜோக்கோவிச் வென்று தங்கத்தைக் கைப்பற்றினர்.

ஒரே ஆண்டில் 4 க்ராண்ட் ஸ்லாம், 24 வெற்றிகள் என்று அனைத்து தரப்பிலும் வென்றிருந்தார். ஒலிம்பிக்கிலும் தங்கமில்லாத பதக்கம் ஏற்கெனவே வென்றிருந்தார். அவர் விட்டுப் போயிருந்த ஒரே ஒரு வெற்றி ஒலிம்பிக்கின் தங்கப் பதக்கம். அதையும் இறுதியாக வென்று விட்டார்.

அந்தப் பதக்கத்திற்காக அவர் எத்தனை ஏங்கியிருந்திருக்கிறார் என்பதை அவரது வெற்றிக்குப் பிறகு சிந்திய கண்ணீர் உணர்த்தியது.

அல்காரஸிற்கு இதுதானே ஆரம்பம்.

ஹாக்கி காலிறுதி ஆட்டம் இங்கிலாந்துடன். ஆளுக்கொரு கோல். அதன் பின் பெனல்டி ஸ்ட்ரைக். பெனல்ட்டி என்றால் ஒரு புள்ளியிலிருந்து அடிக்காமல், மத்தியக் கோட்டிலிருந்து ஒரு ஆட்டக்காரர் பந்தோடு கோல் நோக்கி வருகிறார். வழியில் கோல் கீப்பர் அவர் கோல் போட விடாமல் தடுத்தாட வேண்டும். எப்போதிருந்து இந்த மாற்றமோ தெரியவில்லை. முதல் முறையாகப் பார்த்தேன்.

இந்திய காப்டன் ஹர்மன் ப்ரீத் கோல் கீப்பரை ஏமாற்றி பந்தை ஒரு சுற்றுச் சுற்றி அழகாக ஒரு கோலை அடித்தார். அடித்ததும் மூளையைப் பயன்படுத்திப் போட்ட கோல் என்று கோல்கீப்பரைப் பார்த்துச் சைகை மொழியில் சொன்னார். எனக்கு அம்புட்டு மகிழ்ச்சி.

இந்திய கோல் கீப்பர்  Sreejeshக்கு ஏற்கெனவே நல்ல பெயர் இருந்தது. இந்தப் போட்டியில் அவர் இரு பெனல்டிகளைத் தடுத்து வெற்றியை உறுதிப் படுத்தினர். கீழே விழுந்து ஒரு பந்தைத் தடுத்து வெற்றி பெற்றதும், அவர் வெற்றிக் களிப்பில் சிறு குழந்தைகள் போல் (அவருக்கு வயதென்னவோ நிறையவே ஆகிவிட்டது.) 

மூன்று முறை உட்கார்ந்து கொண்டே துள்ளிக் குதித்ததைப் பார்த்து எனக்கு அம்புட்டு மகிழ்ச்சி. அவரை மற்ற இந்திய வீரர்கள் தூக்கிக் கொண்டாடி விட்டார்கள். எனக்கு அம்புட்டு மகிழ்ச்சி.

எனக்கு ஏன் அம்புட்டு மகிழ்ச்சி என்றால் அவர்கள் வென்றது  இங்கிலாந்து நாட்டை. எனக்குப் பிடிக்காத நாடான இங்கிலாந்து தோற்றதால் ஏற்பட்ட மகிழ்ச்சி. அந்த நாடு மட்டும் GREAT Britain … என்று தன்னையே அழைத்துக் கொண்டால் என்ன பொருள்? மற்ற நாடுகளை விட இந்த நாடு என்னத்தை கிழித்து விட்டது? காலனியாதிக்கம் செய்து பல கொடுமைகளை உலகெங்கும் செய்தது தவிர இந்த நாட்டுக்கு மட்டும் Great, Royal, Imperial போன்ற adjectives எதற்கு?
